Portugal's disgruntled Facebook generation, inspired by a pop song, marched in a dozen cities today to vent its frustration at grim career prospects amid an acute economic crisis that shows no sign of abating.

Some 30,000 people, mostly in their 20s and 30s, crammed into Lisbon's main downtown avenue, called onto the streets by a social media campaign that harnessed a broad sense of disaffection.

Local media reported thousands more attended simultaneous protests at 10 other cities nationwide.

A banner at the front of the Lisbon march said: "Our country is in dire straits" while another said: "We are the future."

The Lisbon march was festive and raucous, featuring brass bands, drum combos and small children with balloons. Middle-aged parents also turned out.

Portugal, western Europe's poorest country, is producing the best-qualified generation in its history, thanks to big investments in education.

But after a decade of feeble economic growth and a huge debt burden that has forced the government to enact crippling austerity measures, Portugal's economy can't deliver the opportunities that trained young people are seeking.

The jobless rate stands at a record 11.2%, and half the unemployed are under 35. In the third quarter of last year, 68,500 college graduates were idle - a 6.5% increase on the same quarter the previous year, according to the National Statistics Institute.

Like Greece and Ireland, other debt-heavy European countries, analysts say Portugal is on the verge of needing an international bailout that would prevent its financial collapse but doom it to more years of recession.

"People's well-being has taken second place to financial matters," said Luis Santos, a 28-year-old out of work since graduating from Lisbon University three years ago.

"It's hard to come across anyone who's happy about their prospects," he said.

Portugal's youth is not just angry at unemployment but at "underemployment" - low paid, dead-end jobs beneath their levels of qualification - which leaves them stuck at home with their parents into their 30s.

Goncalo Montenegro, 45, was at the Lisbon march with his 14-year-old son. He works as a salesman but said he is worried about his son's future.

"We're passing on this mess and our debt to the next generation," he said. "We have to find a different path."

Four graduates in their 20s were inspired to organise the unprecedented protests after a pop song struck a chord with their despairing generation.

The song, called What a fool I am by Portuguese band Deolinda, was an unexpected hit in January, even though it hadn't been released yet. An amateur video of a concert performance of the song posted on YouTube went viral as it set a generation's simmering grievances to music.

The song's lyrics - including the lines "I can't go on like this/This situation's dragged on for too long" - built into a battle cry.

Joao Labrincha, a 27-year-old unemployed graduate from Coimbra University, said he and three friends took a spontaneous decision to organise the marches after seeing the video.

"We realised that lots of people are unhappy. It wasn't just us," Labrincha said. Within weeks, thousands had signed up to their Facebook page.

The protest's manifesto said it was not targeting the country's embattled government but hoped to make people aware they have to pull together to change the country's course.

After contracting in 2009, Portugal is forecast to record a double-dip recession this year.

Portugal's current economic plight stems from its inability to generate wealth while amassing massive public and private debt to finance its western European lifestyle.

Lisboa, 07 Nov (Lusa) - O escritor e político Trindade Coelho, falecido há cem anos, "é um exemplo cívico na actual crise de valores", sublinhou Álvaro Matos, da Hemeroteca de Lisboa que organiza palestras sobre o autor de "Os meus amores".
O director da Hemeroteca Municipal de Lisboa salientou à Lusa "o exemplo cívico" de José Francisco Trindade Coelho "que foi uma figura importante na sua época pelos princípios que sempre defendeu, mas também pela sua obra literária, jurídica, jornalista e política".
"Politicamente sobressai o seu exemplo cívico, tendo em conta o contexto actual de crise valores, a crise de ética nos diversos aspectos na área económica, política, social e cultural", realçou Matos.
"A sua ruptura final com a ditadura de João Franco [presidente do conselho de ministros do Rei D. Carlos] é sintomática disso. Acima de tudo, Trindade Coelho tinha um conjunto de valores de que não abdicava. Manteve esse trajecto de vida até ao fim. De certa forma o seu suicídio [em 1908] é o corolário dessa ruptura e dessa ideia de decadência que atravessa a sociedade portuguesa, e ele lida muito mal com isso", explicou.
Álvaro Matos afirmou à Lusa que Trindade Coelho "é praticamente desconhecido das gerações actuais, mas é uma figura incontornável que marcou a sua geração".
A Hemeroteca "aproveitou o centenário da sua morte para dar a conhecer melhor esta figura, e outras obras para além dos contos 'Os meus amores', ao lado de outras facetas de um homem que foi muito importante".
O responsável referiu ainda a obra "In illo tempore" (1902), em que Coelho "faz a narrativa dos seus tempos de Coimbra".
Outra faceta destacada por Álvaro de Matos é a de pedagogo, designadamente através da sua obra "Manual Político do Cidadão Português", que "é pouco conhecida, mas é fundamental, uma espécie de bíblia política de Portugal daquela época e que é também paradigmática da sua preocupação pela educação cívica para com os seus contemporâneos".
Segundo Álvaro Matos, esta obra publicada em 1906 é "um manual que todo o cidadão activo, construtivo, devia ler e reter, pelo menos nos seus aspectos essenciais".
O director da Hemeroteca, localizada no Bairro Alto, sublinhou "a grande actualidade dos princípios enunciados no 'Manual Político do Cidadão Português', designadamente nos valores éticos da República e nos valores democráticos".
Álvaro Matos não hesitou em aconselhar a sua leitura aos políticos e a cidadãos empenhados e participativos na sociedade.
No âmbito do ciclo de colóquios, a próxima palestra realiza-se sábado na Casa Regional de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, em Lisboa, por Alexandre Parafita, e intitula-se "Trindade Coelho, folclorista".
O ciclo encerra na Hemeroteca, instalada no Palácio dos Condes de Tomar, dia 12, com uma palestra do historiador António Ventura, intitulada "Trindade Coelho, jornalista portalegrense".
José Francisco Trindade Coelho nasceu a 18 de Junho de 1861 em Mogadouro, partidário do ideário republicano, pugnou na senda de João de Deus, desenvolveu intensa actividade pedagógica.
Publicou doze títulos, três deles póstumos. O livro de contos "Os meus amores" foi o seu primeiro titulo, publicado em 1902, que alcançou sucesso editorial.

THE BIBLE, GAY RIGHTS, AND HOMOPHOBIA
The current debate on homosexuality and whether it is something repugnant to be repressed, or a normal variation to be understood and respected, rather than feared, is a mess. Instead of clear thinking, honest speech, and real listening, we are being treated to the nauseating spectacle of bigots foaming at the mouth. Vicious propaganda from homophobes is countered by anti-religious diatribes. Positions are hardening, and no one is learning anything. Everywhere one hears the sharp sounds of minds snapping shut.
Homophobes are dangerous. While some are content to simply slander and hate, others commit arson, assault, and murder. Still others conspire to deny basic civil rights to gays and lesbians based upon an ignorant mythology that holds that sexual orientation is a matter of choice and that sexual minorities are therefore criminally antisocial, and should be punished. This mythology, that sexual orientation is a choice, is clung to in spite of overwhelming evidence to the contrary because it is necessary to the construct that gays and lesbians are bad. In other words, irrational, even hysterical fear is driving the thinking, if you could call it that. These hateful attitudes are buttressed by bronze age religious dicta interpreted in the harshest possible light, and without reference to parallel commandments enjoining mercy, compassion, and lovingkindness. Nowhere in the homophobe's mental universe is there any sense of live and let live. Instead, they seek to control the lives of others and would force a conformity that ignores the variabilities of nature.
We need to pause a minute and reflect upon what insisting that there is only one right way to be human gets you. Are we going to reinvent the Medieval nightmare of book and witch burnings, of the ghastly persecutions of heretics, right here in America at the dawn of the 21st century? Lest my remarks seem a bit far fetched, think of those such as the Christian coalition whose goal it is to replace civil with Biblical law in this country by the year 2000. And, mind you, this would not be the seasoned, tested Biblical lawderived from thousands of years of Rabbinical disputation, but a severe and ill-informed version promulgated by individuals whose knowledge of ancient languages and of history is close to nil.
The by now well known Oregon Citizen's Alliance's notorious proposition that was defeated last fall would have forbidden local or state government from ever passing laws making it illegal to refuse to hire, or sell, or rent to an individual solely because they are gay or lesbian. Governments and schools would be forbidden to employ gays and lesbians, and libraries would have to remove books that portrayed homosexuality in a positive or sympathetic light. Ransacking libraries to remove books that disagree with the party line? In a country founded upon freedom of thought? What would come after? The amendment made it to the ballot because over 10% of the registered voters in the state signed a petition saying they wanted this issue in the ballot, but the measure was defeated 55% - 45% statewide. The OCA is now circulating petitions in those counties and municipalities in which the measure passed -- it would have passed statewide had not Portland skewed the vote. The OCA has also organized in Washington, and hopes to do the same here, with a clearly stated agenda to criminalize homosexuality.
I have a question that begs to be asked. Since opposition to homosexuality has its origins in religious dogma (however muddled that dogma may be), is it contradictory for a country that espouses freedom of religion and conscience to accept as public policy the arguments of one religious group, however dominant, with respect to homosexuals and whether they should have the same or fewer rights as other law-abiding citizens?
In a country, and hopefully, a world, of cosmopolitan diversity and respect for religious and other fundamental rights, the narrow, rigid, dogmatic views of those who would "purify" the rest of us in accordance with their own dogma must be seen for the incredibly dangerous things that they are. In the state of Washington it is a requirement of the State Constitution that the public schools be "free of sectarian influence." In other words the Writers of that document wished to ensure that inquiry be encouraged and independent thought allowed in the schools, without which no democracy can ever flourish or survive. The amendments and changes that the Citizen's Alliance proposes are clearly unconstitutional, and for very good reason.
However, there is another factor that also begs to be addressed, and this is the very large amount of support the OCA and other groups of its ilk have received. It is clear than many are persuaded. This is no silly fringe group mentality that may be dismissed with the vague hope that it will just go away. The situation is compounded by the fact that many well-meaning and poorly informed people, who have a sincere respect for their own religious tradition and wish wholeheartedly to do the right thing, are being misled by extremists such as Lon Mabon, who heads up the OCA. The result is that there is a very significant percentage of our population that is either by design or default quite willing to pervert the nation's heritage of freedom in the service of fear, hatred, and narrow sectarian goals. It seems incredible, but a nightmare of theocratic fascism is latent in these attitudes. It may be unlikely, but it is not impossible, and it is more likely the less seriously we take this threat.
Think of it -- an anti-intellectual movement fueled by irrational fears that wants to conduct witch hunts based on its own definition of moral purity, and having a demonized scapegoat target group. Sound familiar? If it doesn't, your assignment is to go and look up a guy named Hitler. He was elected to power in a fair, democratic election in 1933.
However, there may be a way out of this impasse. A brief history lesson in order.
Thinking about the syncretic nature of Western Civilization helps to explain the tensions with which it is fraught, and informs the debate about homosexuality currently raging.
On the one hand you have rationalists and humanists, with an impressive scientific and philosophical pedigree leading back to Greece, who perceive consensual homosexual activity between adults to be morally neutral, and who may, if they wish, refer to ancient Greek society, or to the ethnographic record, for examples of cultures in which homosexuality was not scorned and in which it was positively integrated. On the other hand, you have others, both Christian and Jew (but not all Christians and Jews), who have as their spiritual and moral anchor something from an originally completely separate tradition, and who cite as an absolute moral authority two passages in Leviticus, 18:22 and 20:13.
Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 are parts of the "Holiness Code," which contains long lists of rules defining what is clean and unclean. Some of them are nudity taboos, injunctions against adultery and prostitution, a commandment to not "have one's seed pass through the fire to Molech," orders regarding leprosy and infectious boils, not to wear clothing made of different kinds of fibers or sow seed of different kinds in the same field, and "not to lie with mankind as with womankind, it is abomination" (or confusion). Leviticus 20:13 repeats the command, and adds that the punishment shall be death. Death is also commanded for bestiality, and for wizards or those who have familiar spirits. Clearly, an imposition of Biblical law upon the United States would have far reaching effects, from the complete shutdown of the biotechnology industry, devastation of the textile and clothing industry, through (let's just follow this to see where it leads) Auschwitz for queers and Native Americans practicing traditional religions, as well as neo-pagans and a lot more. Would the demagogues slavering over this scenario preach while wearing polyester pants and a cotton shirt? Does any of this make sense?
It would only be fair to subject these infamous passages to the same kinds of rigorous scrutiny, reflection, contextual analysis and argument that every other phrase in the Bible has been treated to.
It is curious fact that these passages do not in fact seem to have received the theological and Rabbinical anaysis they deserve, which is not surprising given the biases evident in both Christianity and Judaism. Christian misogyny is well known and needs no further explanation here. Jewish misogyny is more subtle, but one need only ask where are the female sages from Judith in the book of Judges to this century? If our religious traditions have been incapable of respecting fully 50% of the population, it is perhaps not surprising that they have also been incapable of coming to terms with the existence of a sexual minority of some 10%. It is not surprising, therefore, that there is something willfully and irrationally severe in the commonly accepted interpretations of the commandment. Like all forms of prejudice, homophobia dwells in the dark places of the heart where hatred, fear, and anger fester unexamined. It is about the maintenance of privilege by a dominant group unwilling to play fair and to descend to the level of being merely equal. It is about ignorance maintained willfully in the face of appeals to reason and compassion, and because it is irrational, it is full of contradictions.
So now we must study what has been written and consider it, and then turn it over again and wrestle with it, being ever mindful of the later prophetic tradition which has also been canonized. The Bible, for all of the severity in the opening books, and for all the nonesense that demagogues have made of it, is also full of exhortations to compassion and moderation. The problem for those who would wish to extend compassion to gays and lesbians while staying on good terms with their own religious tradition is, simply, how may we ethically honor the humanness of responsible gay and lesbian people?
I am wondering about God. If we accept the simple and well proven fact that gays and lesbians do not choose to respond erotically to others of the same gender any more than heterosexuals choose to be heterosexuals, we must ask why would God, on the one hand, create homosexuals, and on the other promulgate a doctrine forbidding homosexuality? One could say, I suppose, that God forbids murder too, and yet look what happens. Ted Bundy responded erotically to murder (he was, by the way, heterosexual). But, in murder, someone dies. In normal homosexuality, two individuals of the same gender find love and sexual intimacy. Who is hurt, then? Offended, maybe, but that is something else again. I recall hearing a Hassidic saying that sometimes judgment must itself be judged. This would indeed appear to be such an instance. What, then should our standard of judgment be?
Note that the Bible makes no mention whatsoever of lesbianism. The intended audience of the commandment against homosexuality is clearly male. On the one hand, one might say that we should generalize from the statement to include lesbians, and that that is the correct way to interpret God's intentions. Many do this, as does the Citizen's Alliance. But, if we accept that, we are also accepting the awareness that God has tailored His remarks to specific audiences at specific times, and we are also accepting human authority to modify, or at least extend, those statements. And, if we are in the business of interpretation, would it be less valid to say instead that the commandment refers only to anal intercourse? After all, much of what male homosexuals do a male and female cannot do when together, not having the right equipment. Or, perhaps it refers solely to doing it with the eunuch Cannanite priests, with whom male worshippers had anal intercourse in their temples? Many of these Bronze age commandments can be seen as devices to keep the ancient Jews separate from their more numerous, citified, decadent etc. neighbors, and thus preserve the tradition. The Holiness code begins with the explicit statement not to do as the Egyptians or Caananites have done. To narrow the meaning of the commandment would, however, be in contradiction to the usual way of enlarging upon God's word in order to be certain of getting it right, as is, for instance, the case with the Jewish dietary laws. So we have to go deeper.
Enter the admonitions of the prophets. Despite the severity of the commanded death penalty for sodomy, the exhortations of Isaiah, who is accepted as speaking for God, are equally strong. Here the Bible contradticts itself and it up to us to choose.
What possible objection could there be to taking the prophets' exhortation to do good and refrain from evil as our guide? Persecuting homosexuals who only want to be left alone and get on with their lives, is, I am sure, clearly evil, as persecution causes misery and even death.
Responsible homosexuality by itself, on the other hand, causes no harm, unlike lying, stealing, committing adultery, and murder. And, in case anyone is wondering, the prophets in many places are explicit about what is good and what is evil, as is Isaiah when he speaks of pleading for the widow, helping the fatherless, and relieving the oppressed as more important than the strict letter of the law, a thread of reasoning informed by compassion that was restated by Jesus. Relieving the oppressed in this instance would mean not only refraining from persecuting homosexuals, but include positive regard for active monogamous homosexual relationships. It would seem that anti-religious diatribes, which cause further polarization of this sick debate, are unnecessary. Awareness of the streams of development in thought and practice in Judaism, which is the proper authority for the original meaning of the Hebrew Bible, and Christianity, which really only needs to know that God's love transcends all, completely changes the nature of the debate, and reveals the would-be persecutors for what they really are: fascists who would destroy our country's sacred traditions of democracy and religious freedom in order to increase their own power.
There is a simple solution. Why not honor and dignify homosexual relationships by requiring of them the same standards of responsibility that we do of heterosexuals, and leave it at that. Promiscuity is an ill wherever it turns up. Forcing sex upon someone without their consent is rape whatever the gender of the rapist and victim. No adult should ever have sex with children, and so on.
Sexual orientation is irrelevant to these requirements, as it ought to be to civil rights. It is a mistake to specify "protected" categories of individuals whose rights are reinforced by special legislation. The result of this approach is the kind of polarized debate we are now seeing. I suggest legislation, or even a constitutional amendment, stating that the only factors which may be considered in employment or housing, whether purchase or rental, and in other critical areas, are those factors which have immediate bearing on the issue at hand. Can the individual do the job? Does the individual have the money to pay for the rent or mortgage? End of discussion. If discrimination occurs, then the complainant need only demonstrate that he or she was qualified, or had the money, to prove injury. Simple.
If sex was only about procreation than no one would engage in sex more than half a dozen or so times in their lives, instead of the several thousand that they do. What about the bondings that sexual intimacy creates? I suspect that there is survival value in the presence among human populations of a minority group of erotically bonded males and females -- gays and lesbians, in fact. The Greek battalions of lover warriors were the best fighting units they had (so much for our military's idiotic homophobia).
As our country wrestles with this issue, we stand poised before a fork in the road. One road leads to a profound learning experience about the true nature of sexuality and dignity. The other leads into a nightmare masquerading as righteousness. It is nothing of the kind. Let our debate, and our experience, not be at the expense of reason.

Depois daquele fatídico dia de outono...

Um daqueles dias de outono em que tudo se vê azul, búzio, em que abres a janela e está nevoeiro, ligas a rádio e passam um blues, em que só te apetecia ser uma violeta africana atrás duma janela, num qualquer gabinete com ar acondicionado, um dia daqueles em que se tomam decisões irrevogáveis...

Foi num dia assim que decidi queimar o Um antes de alguém o ter lido.

E hoje, passados anos, não é possível rescreve-lo, mas posso continuá-lo...

Isto, é a segunda parte de qualquer coisa sem primeira parte, sem início, pelo que dificilmente terá um fim, a não ser que lho demos.

Por isso não esperes encontrar nada de novo por aqui...

Talvez este Dois também não exista, talvez tudo isto não passe duma partida do teu cérebro ou daquilo que andas a meter... talvez seja real como a vida, mas o mais certo é ser um atrofio como tu... como eu...

De qualquer modo, as coincidências de nomes, situações ou lugares, são apenas isso, meras coincidências... ou imaginação tua.

Estamos praticamente no final do Outono, está frio, escuro, mas na rádio não passam nenhum blues, nem eu penso tomar qualquer decisão irrevogável, apenas pretendo que passemos juntos o tempo de leres esta página.

Esta semana os portugas descobriram que são “todos” uns pedófilos pervertidos e que afinal aquela do “machão” era só história... como a dos descobrimentos... E cada dia descobrimos com cada uma! Enfim... que isto não é nada do que parece...

Eu esta semana descobri que cada vez os entendo menos, que cada dia que passa, em vez de me sentir mais integrado, me sinto mais diferente. Claro que isso não me incomoda, até me orgulho, desde que não exageres. Ao fim e ao cabo já estou imune, já cá ando há alguns anos...

Acho que ultimamente me tenho esquecido de ser eu... mas não sei quem tenho sido, acho que tenho sido uma merda, mas é disso que eu sou feito: de bué de merdas...

E tu? Já paraste para pensar o que é que andas cá a fazer? Será que depois de te despir as marcas que levas em cima e o gel ficamos com alguma coisa? Será que tu és só o corpinho que vemos passar? Será que és conforme é preciso? Será que acabas quando morres?

Será que sabemos ser gente? E o que é ser gente?...

Será que podemos mudar de assunto?

E que queres tu que eu te conte, isto aqui é sempre igual, somos sempre os mesmos, no mesmo sítio, a queixar-nos pelos mesmos motivos e sem tomar qualquer atitude para mudar as coisas... Makuduron é mesmo fatal e inevitável!

Outra coisa: nunca imaginei que o facto de eu ser tal como sou incomodasse tanto os demais... será que tem um efeito reflector e começam a ver-se em mim como num espelho?!

Era a primeira vez que eles vinham visitar-me, pelo que lhe descrevi pormenorizadamente o caminho e a localização do tasco, só que para variar, atrasei-me...
Eles entraram e a primeira coisa que repararam, para além de dois ou três rapazinhos que estavam dentro do balcão, foi que só havia homens naquele lugar. A princípio, pensaram ser uma coincidência, e ficaram a beber um copo. Mas depois, ao ver as brincadeiras entre os chavalinhos do balcão, e entre estes e alguns clientes, acabaram por pagar rapidinho e pôr-se a andar dali para fora, acabando por pensar que, como eu não apareci, só podia ter ficado de me encontrar com eles ali por brincadeira...
Mas não, estavam enganados, era mesmo o tasco onde eu costumava parar, e não é um tasco gay, é um tasco bi, acho eu...

APRESENTAÇÃO

Entre os dias 25 e 27 de Abril vai decorrer o III Encontro "Pelo Rio Sabor" nos concelhos de Mogadouro, Alfândega da Fé e Torre de Moncorvo. Este Encontro tem reunido algumas centenas de pessoas que ano após ano têm vindo ao Nordeste conhecer o vale do Sabor e afirmar a sua posição em defesa de um rio livre.
Durante o evento deste ano pretende-se dar a conhecer mais alguns recantos deste rio, através de passeios temáticos, caminhadas e palestras. Também não faltarão os passeios de burro, em btt e descida em canoa/kayak. Será uma óptima oportunidade para vir conhecer este rio, livre de barragens.
Como se sabe, existe um projecto para a construção de uma mega-barragem na zona do Baixo Sabor, defendido pelo Governo e pelas autarquias locais. O Rio Sabor é o último grande rio sem barragens do nosso país e um dos últimos da Europa nestas condições, sendo por isso reconhecido por muitos, como o último grande rio "selvagem". De facto, este rio possui características únicas, que lhe permitem conservar uma importante comunidade de aves rupícolas ameaçadas e habitats de conservação prioritária a nível Europeu. Trata-se de uma área classificada como Rede Natura 2000 e Zona de Protecção Especial, segundo as Directivas Comunitárias, onde, por essas razões, não podem ser realizados empreendimentos causadores de grandes impactos ambientais. Face à decisão do Estado Português de aí construir uma barragem de grandes dimensões, que iria afectar 50 km de rio, a Plataforma Sabor Livre, apresentou uma queixa à Comissão Europeia, no sentido desta não aprovar a construção desta barragem e ainda de impedir o acesso a fundos comunitários para esse fim.
Apesar de toda a argumentação defendida pela Plataforma Sabor Livre, as notícias parecem indicar que a Comissão Europeia pretende arquivar a queixa, dando luz verde ao Estado português para avançar com a obra. A Plataforma Sabor Livre, e todas as associações que a apoiam, não pretendem desistir e continuarão a trabalhar no sentido de impedir legalmente que a barragem seja construída. Não será uma "batalha" fácil, mas acreditamos que ainda seja possível ganhar, conservando-se o rio Sabor.

A “sociofonia” entrevista várias personalidades – Miguel Portas do Bloco de Esquerda e Ana Gomes do Partido Socialista – que lamentam as posições de Portugal neste conflito, acusando o governo português de agir segundo uma lógica de interesses momentâneos e de falta de princípios. António Pinho descortina o que sairá nas gordas do “Conversas de Café”. Este periódico dá destaque à opinião sem medo e entrevista por exemplo; Zé Pedro, guitarrista dos Xutos e Pontapés, ex toxicodependente que agora se empenha em avisar os jovens em campanhas de prevenção. (50’ 00″).

Nesta edição, Ana Sofia Nunes da associação “Cidadãos por Lisboa” fala-nos da supressão de benefícios fiscais das pessoas portadoras de deficiências que esta em vigor desde a lei do orçamento de 2007.
Com a autoproclamação da independência do Kosovo, abriu a polémica sobre o direito à autodeterminação vs a coesão mínima no nosso Velho Continente. Que Europa e que União?

Ana Filgueiras,conhecida activista da luta contra ao HIV,Dr.Décio, cirurgão do HSM,e dr Lourenço sexólogo do mesmo hospital, ambos especializados na área dos trangenders.
Foi a ocasião de ser apresentada ao BE a proposta da Opus Gay de uma “Lei de Identidade de Género”,que fora já antes entregue no CIG,durante o Ano Europeu pela Igualdade de Oportunidades.

Senegal: Amnesty International’s position on decriminalization of homosexuality

You may have seen news stories today erroneously reporting that AI Senegal has opposed the decriminalization of homosexuality in Senegal. These reports are based on the statements of Samba Guissé, identified as the president of the national council of Amnesty International Senegal.

Mr. Guissé chairs an advisory group to AI Senegal. He is not a member of AI Senegal’s Board of Directors, and his statements do not reflect AI policy.

Mr. Guissé’s statements came after AI Senegal and other nongovernmental organizations called on Senegalese authorities to decriminalise homosexuality. The calls followed the arrest in Dakar earlier this month of nine men and one woman after the publication of photographs of a “marriage ceremony” between two men in Icones magazine. All were released before being officially charged. Amnesty International remains concerned for the safety of those accused of attending the “gay wedding” and human rights defenders working with lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people in Senegal.

Laws that criminalize same-sex sexual conduct between consenting adults in private violate the rights to privacy, freedom from discrimination, freedom of expression and association, and other human rights. Amnesty International considers any person imprisoned solely on the basis of actual or presumed sexual orientation or gender identity or expression – including any person prosecuted for having sex with another consenting adult in private – to be a prisoner of conscience who must be immediately and unconditionally released.

Amnesty International calls on authorities in all countries to review any legislation that could result in the discrimination, prosecution and punishment of people solely for their sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. Such measures include “sodomy” laws or similar provisions outlawing sexual conduct between people of same-sex or transgender individuals; discriminatory age-of-consent legislation; public order legislation used as a pretext for prosecuting and punishing people solely for their sexual orientation or gender identity or expression; and laws banning the “promotion” of homosexuality which can be used to imprison lesbian, gay, bisexual, same-sex practicing and transgender individuals and human rights defenders. All such laws should be repealed or amended.

O MDM,Movimento Democrático das Mulheres, vem pela voz de Lúcia, informar sobre a implementação da lei que em Portugal legalizou a Interrupção Voluntária da Gravidez. Ficamos a saber que os dados mostram que uma vez legalizado o aborto em certas condições, as mulheres não correram levianamente a pratica-lo como diziam os arautos da desgraça que faziam campanha pelo “Não” no referendo. Falta no entanto, divulgar os direitos das mulheres neste âmbito (aos 13’ 48”).

Apresentamos a revista “Dependências”, um periódico publicado por uma cooperativa independente onde os jornalistas primam por uma visão de independência rara no meio da comunicação social portuguesa. É uma parceira do “Vidas Alternativas”. Dedica-se à área social e Sérgio Oliveira seu dirigente fala-nos dela; da sua linha editorial dedicada às dependências, à saúde, ao desafio de conter o HIV – Sida (aos 23’ 36”).

Na mesma linha de estudo dos comportamentos sociais, a académica Marta Maia é entrevistada para nos falar da sua tese de doutoramento onde aborda os valores e vivencias da sexualidade e atitudes face às doenças sexualmente transmissíveis nos jovens franceses agrupados em duas classes sociais; os de classe média alta, e os de meio desfavorecido. Ficamos a saber que aqueles são mais românticos, que os segundos valorizam mais a virilidade e que, as representações da sexualidade variam em função do grupo social ( aos 37’ 22”).

O psicólogo José Antunes assume que não vê telenovelas mas pode falar delas enquanto fenómeno social. Aqui dá a sua opinião e sugestão, no que aos media diz respeito. Como representar a homossexualidade nas novelas e series? Qual a situação actual sobre a forma que essas representações apresentam? (aos 44’ 19”).
